Sanidad, nuevo proyecto.

The Ides of March Challenge
Less than one week till it's the end for some prime wannabe's. A 24 hour (15-16 March) Challenge is being offered on PrimeGrid's Prime Sierpinski Project/Seventeen or Bust (Sieve) application. Come join us as we quicken the demise for some unlucky k/n pairs.Application builds are available for MacIntel, Linux, and Windows – with a 64 bit advantage. For more information, please see this forum post.

Server downtime
During this weekend the server will be taken down for O/S upgrade.
The old distro (Debian 4) will be replaced by Debian 5 amd64, since the older version has a limited support and probably slows down the hardware a bit.
It's hard to estimate how long the upgrade process will take, but I'd say that 8-12 hours minimum, because I have to do a complete backup first, so in the worst case I'll be able to rollback everything to the previous state.

Project News March 9, 2010
The latest radio pulsar re-discoveries are available here.
Our count is now at 59 detections of 40 different known radio pulsars. The latest improvements of the search workflow increased the
average processing rate to about 200% of the Arecibo data taking rate.
This means we're now able to process the available backlog of data - thanks to our volunteers!

QCN responds to the M8.8 earthquake in Chile
On March 9, two graduate students flew to Chile to begin installing 100 QCN sensors in the region affected by the recent M8.8 earthquake. Our partners at the University of Concepcion are coordinating the installation of sensors. Volunteers from the University of Concepcion and University of Santiago will assist with installing sensors in cities throughout the region. We hope to record many of the aftershocks that are still occurring in the area to better understand the distribution of aftershocks and to study the properties of earthquakes. We will include updates on their progress and the data that are recorded in the coming weeks. If you are in Chile and would like to participate in the Quake-Catcher Network Rapid Aftershock Mobilization Project (QCN-RAMP) please fill out the form on this link.

GPUGRID wins a project to advance the understanding and cure of Schizophrenia
GPUGRID will be the essential computational tool in a national publicly funded project (TV3-Marato) on Schizophrenia. The aims of the project is to perform in-silico modelling of antipsychotic drug actions. One of the previous task group called *JAN* were already starting to study this problem. Thanks in advance to all volunteers and stay tuned for updates.

Project News 04.03.2010 12:10 GMT
Two announcements:
1) The LHC is back up and running you can follow its progress on the
CERN twitter feed @CERN or
the @lhcstatus feed.
The latter is actually a scrape of the screens that the physicists watch
to monitor the LHC machine.
2) LHC@home is also back. After a long quiet period we have new
studies to work on. The executable has been updated (which is why there
is not a Linux version available yet) and the project is now crunching
simulations for the LHC upgrade. The team at CERN are working on the
Linux executable and the team at QMUL are looking at the server code and
are hoping to update that soon.
This is all I will say for the moment. However LHC@home is being
used for beam studies from the LHC machine running actual data from the
experiments is unlikely as the code has been written for the grid and
the datasets are measured in 100s of gigabytes. We
have been looking into other LHC uses for the project but it is not
easy.
Later days,
Neasan

Tour de Primes 2010 has ended!!!
A very productive month for the Tour de Primes. 309 "Top 5000" primes were discovered, easily surpassing last year's mark of 212. lennart SM5YMT of Sweden and the PrimeSearchTeam once again topped the leader boards winning his second yellow jersey in a row. He also picked up the green jersey for the first time. [SG]marodeur6 of Germany and team SETI.Germany takes home the checkered jersey. For more details about the tour and complete standings, please see this forum post.

QCN participant records the M8.8 earthquake in Chile
On February 27, 2010 a M8.8 earthquake struck Chile just northwest of the major city of Concepcion. A QCN partner at the University of Concepcion was testing a JoyWarrior USB sensor with the goal of introducing QCN to the region in the future. The sensor caught the M8.8 mainshock and a number of aftershocks that followed. The computer was attached to a backup power supply that kept the computer running for one hour after the earthquake knocked out power to most of the city. Unfortunately, at the time of the earthquake the sensor was not connected to the floor, but most of the earthquake record looks surprisingly good. The very high accelerations approximately 15 seconds into the record may be the sensor falling off of the box it was sitting on. Click here to view the QCN output.

Help needed to analyze promising quantum processor data
The AQUA project is getting promising data from D-Wave's quantum processors. The project is currently running a large number of simulations to help analyze this data. Anyone in the BOINC community with available CPU capacity would be very welcome to help out. The applications are now highly optimized and pay well. Please spread the word among your team members if you are interested in this scientific effort.

In the next few weeks emphasis will be on FP workunits
Recently we have been performing a lot of simulations using the Fokker-Planck application, and this trend will continue for a while. The Fokker-Planck application supports single-core CPUs (SSE2 is required) and gives out about the same amount of credit as the original aqua application.
